Wim van Anrooij (Leiden)

Wim van Anrooij (1957) is professor for Dutch Literature until Romanticism at the University of Leiden. He published Spiegel van ridderschap (1990), Helden van weleer (1997), Literarische Kleinformen im Spiegel mittelniederländischer Sammelhandschriften (2009) and De Mond der Waarheid (2011), and co-edited, among others, Early Modern Medievalisms: The Interplay between Scholarly Reflection and Artistic Production (2010). He is a member of the Advisory Board of Intersections, Interdisciplinary Studies in Early Modern Culture, Spiegel der Letteren, the series Middeleeuwse Verzamelhandschriften uit de Nederlanden, and the Bert van Selm-lezing. He is a member of the Maatschappij der Nederlandse letterkunde (Leiden), Teylers Tweede Genootschap (Haarlem), associated member of L‘Académie Internationale d’Héraldique (Switzerland), and curator of the Bibliotheca Thysiana (Leiden).

Since his PhD thesis Spiegel van ridderschap, on the writings of herald Gelre (1990), he has published extensively on heralds and heraldic poetry. His current research interests include (1) heralds and heraldry, (2) poetry-writing clerks in the Middle Ages, (3) printed Middle Dutch chivalric romances in a European context, and (4) Couperus (1863-1923)  and the Middle Ages.
